The short answer
A registered logo cannot be replaced in the trademark register with a new graphic. A substantially changed sign may call for a new application. During a pending procedure, a material change can instead move the filing date. Minor differences in actual use are a separate question.
The registered representation remains fixed
The register records the sign that was registered. Modernising your website does not update that entry. Neither a new design agency nor an unchanged company name allows you to replace the registered graphic. Changes of address or ownership are administrative matters and should not be confused with changing the sign.
Compare the existing registration with the final new file. If defining elements have disappeared, been replaced or rearranged, the new version needs its own assessment. A substantially new sign may require an additional application. The previous registration does not automatically acquire either the new representation or an expanded scope of protection.

A pending application's filing date can change
Before registration, an amendment does not always mean an entirely new request is required. Under the IPI guidelines, however, a material change to the sign moves the filing date. That can matter commercially because its chronological position against rights arising in the meantime may be affected by the change.
Avoid filing a preliminary design as the final trademark when a major redesign is imminent. If the application is already pending, first establish the consequences of the specific amendment. Changing the type of trademark or replacing essential components is not equivalent to correcting a typing error in a covering letter.

Plan continued use and a fresh application together
Minor variations may be permissible when using an existing trademark. This does not create a right to rewrite the registered representation. Whether modernised use preserves the sign’s distinctive character depends on the actual comparison. A blanket percentage of allowable design changes does not provide a reliable rule for that assessment.
Document when each version appears on products, invoices and advertising. A new application also requires attention to your current offering and earlier rights; the previous registration does not replace that work. Both versions may remain relevant during a transition. Make a deliberate decision about retaining and renewing the old trademark.

What you can do now
- Compare the old registration with the final new file.
- Clarify procedural status and filing-date consequences.
- Document both versions’ use and any new products.
Frequently asked questions
Can I report the new logo like a new address?
No. An address can be updated administratively, but that process cannot replace the representation of a registered trademark. The new sign needs separate assessment.

Will a change before registration preserve my date?
Not necessarily. A material amendment can move the filing date. Establish whether the proposed change is material before submitting it to the office.
